Dr. Monfils introduced the item of the ACT writing
sample under other business. Earlier in the Fall, the issue was raised
whether UW Whitewater should use the ACT writing sample for placement.
The provosts are meeting, and one item on their agenda is to determine
if the ACT writing sample will be required for admission. Larry Schuetz
indicated the SAT writing sample has created some controversy. He finds
most aspects acceptable, but needs more details before endorsing it as
a requirement. Bruce Bukowski favors having this a System-wide policy.
Larry Schuetz affirmed this also. Larry Schuetz indicated cutoff
scores would have to be determined. Dr. Monfils said more information
would be presented at the next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned 3:05 p.m. on an Anne
Hamilton/Larry Kenney motion.
Respectfully submitted,
Leslie Meyer
