Minutes of the April 16, 2004 meeting

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:15
p.m.
Scott Bradley moved, with a second by Stuart Glosser,
to approve the April 16, 2004 agenda.
The motion carried.
Anne Hamilton moved and George Ferencz seconded the
approval of the April 2, 2004 minutes.
The motion carried.
The proposal from the College of Arts and Communication
for a new major, Multimedia Digital
Arts, was approved on a George Ferencz/Chris Henige motion.
Linda Holmes moved to approve the proposal from the
Accounting Department for a new course, ACCOUNT
483/683 International Accounting. The motion was seconded
by Stuart Glosser and the motion carried.
John Howat moved to approve, with a second by Stuart
Glosser, the proposals from the Finance and Business Law Department for
changes in submajors - Finance minor
and Professional Business - General Business
and to receive and record the requisite changes for FNBSLW
444 Corporate Financial Management Decisions and FNBSLW
456 Security Analysis. The motion carried.
Phil Johns moved to receive and record the proposal
from the History Department for contact hour change and/or credit change
for HISTRY 311 Wisconsin History.
The motion was seconded by Chris Henige and the motion carried.
The proposal from the Music Department for a new course,
MUSC
345 Women in Music, was approved on a George Ferencz/Simone
DeVore motion.
The committee approved the correction of the typo
re: the corequisites for SPECED 361/561.
It has been changed from SPECFLD 380/580 to SPECFLD 385/585. And
the total lecture hours was changed from 24 to 48.
The committee also passed a resolution on a George
Ferencz/Chris Henige motion recommending to the Faculty Senate that all
faculty include the following statement from System regarding the awarding
of credit on every syllabus.
"The institutions shall award credit to students successfully
completing approved instructional programs, or demonstrating competence
or learning equivalent to that provided by such programs as either semester
credits or quarter credits. It is assumed that study leading to one
semester credit represents an investment of time by the average student
of not fewer than 48 hours for class contact in lectures, for laboratories,
examinations, tutorials and recitations, and for preparation and study;
or a demonstration by the student of learning equivalent to that established
as the expected product of such a period of study. Study leading to one
quarter of credit represents two-thirds of that set as the standard for
one semester credit."
The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m. on a Stuart
Glosser/ Anne Hamilton motion.
