Minutes of the April 2, 2004 meeting
PRESENT: Dan Edlebeck, George Ferencz,
Stuart Glosser, Anne Hamilton, Chris Henige, Linda Holmes, Larry Kenney,
John Howat, Phil Johns, Barbara Monfils, Ann Ruff, Larry Schuetz,
and Alvaro Taveira for Simone DeVore,
ABSENT: Katherine Bradley, Scott Bradley,
Clint Dederich, Anthony Gulig, Phil Jackson, Nicole Urbaniak, and Sue Wildermuth

Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:15
p.m.
Chris Henige moved, with a second by Larry Kenney,
to approve the April 2, 2004 agenda. The
motion carried.
George Ferencz moved and Chris Henige seconded the
approval of the March 5, 2004 minutes.
The motion carried.
Phil Johns moved to approve, with a second by Ann
Hamilton, the Interdisciplinary proposal - Allow
Diversity Credit for Special Courses. The motion carried.
The proposals from the Theatre/Dance Department for
two new courses, DANCE 155 Tap Dance I and
DANCE
255 Tap Dance II were approved on a George Ferencz/Anne Hamilton
motion.
Stuart Glosser moved to approve the proposal from
the Management Department for a change in major, General
Management major. The motion was seconded by John Howatt and
the motion carried.
Larry Kenney moved to approve the proposals from the
Occupational & Environmental Safety & Health Department for a new
course, SAFETY 479/679 Prinicples and Methods
of Industrial Hygiene and the change in major, Occupational
and Environmental Safety and Health and moved to receive and record
the deletion of SFTYIND 480/680 Industrial
Hygiene Instrumentation and SFTYIND
484/684 Industrial Hygiene.
There was discussion on credit
hours for labs and/or studio courses and whether the University has a standard
policy on this. Dr. Monfils indicated she would check on this for
the next meeting. The motion was seconded by Anne Hamilton and the motion
carried.
The following special courses received between February
25 and March 25 were received and recorded on a George Ferencz/Phil Johns
motion.

A brief discussion followed regarding the writing survey. Larry Schuetz spoke about the writing component in the freshman year in World of Ideas, followed by more survey courses in the sophomroe year, and then more writing courses in the junior and senior years. Dan Edlebeck spoke briefly about the ACT writing test. While at a system meeting, he learned that only Whitewater and Madison indicated they would adopt this requirement at this time.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:45 p.m. on a Stuart Glosser/John Howatt motion.
