Barbara Monfils called the meeting to order at 2:17
p.m.
Anne Hamilton moved and George Ferencz seconded the
approval of the January 23, 2004 minutes.
The motion carried.
George Savage led a discussion on the ACT writing
sample. He pointed out that one advantage is that the scores from
the sample will provide information for more accurate placement of students
in the freshman English courses. Other institutions in the UW System
are also considering adding this requirement. He then answered questions.
Following the discussion, Phil Johns moved to support the institution of
the ACT writing sample as a requirement for admission beginning with the
Fall semester of 2007. Larry Kenney seconded this motion. The
motion carried.
Phil Johns moved to approve, with a second by Anne
Hamilton, the two Interdisciplinary proposals – Allow
General Education credit for approved 496 Special Studies courses,
and Correct & Clarify Wording of General Education
requisites on AR. The motion carried.
George Ferencz moved to receive and record the following
proposals from the Education Department: Requisite changes – EARLYCHD
222 Early Childhood Music Methodsand ELEMMID
223 Elementary/Middle School Music Methods. Larry
Kenney seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
Susan Wildermuth moved to approve the Creation
of Subject Area to Safety proposal from the Occupational & Environmental
Safety & Health Department with a second by Scott Bradley. The
motion carried.
Larry Kenney with a second by Chris Henige moved to
receive and record the proposal from the Occupational & Environmental
Safety & Health Department to delete SFTYIND
496/696 Special Studies. The motion carried.
George Ferencz moved to receive and record the following
proposals from the Special Education Department: Course deletions
– SPECED 356/556 and SPECED
457/657 and SPECED 459/659;
Requisite
changes – SPECED 465/665 and SPECED
476/676. Tony Gulig seconded the motion, and the motion carried.
The special courses approved between 1/23/04 thru
2/12/04 were received and recorded on an Anne Hamilton/Simone DeVore motion.
