II.   Relationship to mission and strategic plan of institution, and/or College/Department goals and objectives
N/A
III.  Rationale
Previous to Fall 2001, COMPSCI 171 was divided into several sections which taught PASCAL and one section (for physics and chemistry majors) which taught FORTRAN. Changes to the Computer Science curriculum last spring created three new courses: COMPSCI 171 for Visual BASIC; COMPSCI 172 for JAVA; COMPSCI 173 for FORTRAN. The change proposed above to the Physics Industry Emphasis accommodates this change in course numbering initiated by the Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences.
IV.   Cost implications None.
