Proposal:
The change in General
Education requirements at UWW now provides students a choice between U.S.
Experiences in a World Context and Global Perspectives. However, U.S. Experiences in a World Context
cannot be accepted to meet the existing PI 4 General Education for Licensure
non-western history/non-western contemporary culture. Students seeking licensure in Elementary, Secondary, K-12
Programs (such as Art, Music, Physical Education) and Special Education must
take Global Perspectives (or an approved non-western equivalent listed in the
Professional Education Handbook).
Having the APR reflect that Global Perspectives is a requirement would
help students in their class selection.
In addition, the College of
Education Curriculum Committee (COECC) voted to increase the specificity of the
entire PI 4 General Education for Licensure section on the APR. With the University Requirement (GEN ED) (32
credits) allowing ELECTIVES (7-12 credits to bring total to 32 credits), it is
imperative that Education majors receive guidance as to which courses they must
take. For ease of advising, the College
of Education would like to have the APR section III: PI 4 General Education for
Licensure be spelled out as follows:
FROM:
III. PI-4
