    II.  Relationship to mission and strategic plan of institution, and/or College/Department goals
         and objectives
The department prepares student to work as speech-language pathologists in school settings. The courses offered to students must be up-to-date and aligned with certification and professional standards.


    III.  Rationale

Switching these courses places the Department in compliance with the new Wisconsin Standards for Teacher Development and Licensure PI 34 rules relating to teacher education licenses in Speech and Language Pathology. In order to qualify for a speech and language pathology license, an applicant must have an understanding and use of augmentative and nonverbal communication modes and systems. The department will meet this rule by requiring students enroll in the Augmentative and Alternative Communication course.
