CURRICULUM PROPOSAL FORM #8

UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-WHITEWATER

ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION

Description of Action:                    Change in Department Name

Initiator of Action:                         Marcia L. James

Department(s) Affected:                Business Education/Office Systems

College(s) Affected:                      Business & Economics

Other Programs Affected:              School Business Management

Reasons for Action (include whether the action was recommended by any review body, if appropriate):

Joe Domitrz, Dean of the College of Business & Economics; Bob Horton, Program Coordinator for MCS; and I met during the Spring 2000 semester and explored appropriate names for the “Office Systems” portion of our Department Name.   (The national organization OSRA has dropped “office” in favor of “organizational” systems.)

All three parties (Dr. Horton has since met with his faculty) agreed upon:

Business Education/Computer & Network Administration

The “Business Education” portion of the name was retained as we are the only public university in Wisconsin providing this high demand teaching license.  The “Computer & Network Administration” portion of the name clearly identifies to the reader as to what we are achieving in this curriculum.

Staffing and Budgetary Impacts:

New business cards need to ordered (but are needed anyway to reflect the area code change).  A new Department sign will also need to be engraved.  Therefore, the costs are minimal.
