Minutes of the November 17, 2000 Meeting

PRESENT:  George Ferencz, Melissa Ellis, Anne Hamilton, John Howat, Tony Gulig (for Phil Johns), Marilyn Lavin, Ann Ruff, Larry Schuetz, Stephen Solheim, Alvaro Taveira, Richard Telfer, Sally Vogl-Bauer, and John Washbush

ABSENT:  Scott Bradley, Tom Colwin, Larry Kenney, Heather Reichardt, Debra Schufletowski, and Jim Stewart
 

Richard Telfer called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.

George Ferencz moved approval of the November 17, 2000 agenda as revised.  Marilyn Lavin seconded the motion, and the motion carried.

John Washbush moved, and Marilyn Lavin seconded, a motion to approve the October 20, 2000 minutes. The motion carried.

The university-wide course proposal  930-080 PASS (Partnership for Achieving Student Success) Workshop was approved on a George Ferencz/Anne Hamilton motion.

John Howat moved approval of the Business Education/Computer & Network Administration Department's proposal for a change in the Professional Business - Computer End User Technology minor.  John Washbush seconded the motion, which carried.

 
George Ferencz moved, and Tony Gulig seconded, to approve the History Department's proposals for a new course 740-190 North American Environmental History which includes General Education credit.  The motion carried.  Tony Gulig then moved to approve the two courses 740-313 Women in American History I: 1600-1875 and 740-314 Women in American History II: 1875 to the Present including General Education and Diversity credit.  Marilyn Lavin seconded the motion. After some discussion regarding the Diversity Committee's lack of endorsement for Diversity credit, Sally Vogl-Bauer moved to amend the motion to approve the course with General Education credit and to send the course back to the Diversity Committee for further discussion.  Anne Hamilton seconded the amendment, but the motion to approve the amendment failed.   George Ferencz then moved to amend the original motion to approve the course with general education credit only.  Marilyn Lavin seconded the amendment, and the amendment carried.  The main motion, as amended then carried.
 
Steve Solheim moved to receive and record Political Science Department's proposal for a change in number and title from: 820-380 (580) Women and Politics to: 820-315 (515) Women and American Politics.  Anne Hamilton seconded the motion, and the motion carried.  The proposal to add general education credit to course 820-255 Introduction to Comparative Politics was approved on a Hamilton/Ferencz motion.  Anne Hamilton then moved to approve the new course 617/880-280 Introduction to Australian Studies: Australian Society & Culture including General Education credit.  Marilyn Lavin seconded the motion, and the motion carried.   Finally, George Ferencz moved to approve the changes in the following majors and minors: Political Science Minor, Political Science Minor-Education Emphasis, Political Science (BA/BS), Political Science (BSE), Broadfield Political Science I Emphasis (BSE), and Broadfield Political Science II Emphasis (BSE).   Anne Hamilton seconded the motion, which carried.
 
John Washbush moved to receive and record the special courses approved between October 12, 2000 and November 8, 2000 which are as follows:
