  1. Exact description of request

  2. Change the requirements as follows:
From: 210-452 Advanced Income Tax Accounting (for BBA only) or
210-342 Advanced Business and Commercial Law (future MPA students only)

To:     210-452 Advanced Income Tax Accounting (for BBA only) or
210-493 Internship in Accounting (future MPA students only)

  3. Relationship to mission and strategic plan of institution, and/or College/Department goals and objectives

  4. This major and the BBA degree program is a significant element of our mission at UW-W and in the College of Business & Economics. These changes will help us to maintain and increase our success in the future.

  5. Rationale

  6. Business Law II (240-342) is specifically directed to CPA law. Our undergraduate only students will not be able to become CPA’s if they graduate after 12/31/00. Therefore, they have no need for the course. Our students following the 150-credit plan (CPA) will cover this material at the graduate level.

The internship is now going to be an important lead-in to the MPA program. The recruiting public accounting firms are requiring this approach and the other UW campuses will all be involved as well. The repositioning of 240-342 together with the college proposal to eliminate the 250-211 requirement have now made it possible for such a requirement to fit within the credit limits of our program. The timing is fortuitous and it will allow us to maintain and increase success in the future.

  7. Cost Implications

  8. The 240-342 requirement elimination should not change costs notably because the 150 credit students will take a course in this area either way.
The 210-493 requirement will not change the offering or staffing of that course.
