CURRICULUM PROPOSAL FORM #8
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-WHITEWATER

ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION

Description of Action: Create a Prefix

Initiator of Action: Larry Neuman

Department(s) Affected: None

College(s) Affected: Letters and Sciences

Other Programs Affected: None

Reasons for Action (include whether the action was recommended by any review body, if appropriate):

Over the years, the Asian Studies Minor has suffered because of its low visibility. The program has no budget and no FTE assigned to it. It is wholly interdisciplinary and depends entirely on courses sponsored by other academic departments and programs. Asian Studies Minor faculty and instructional academic staff who have an interest in teaching interdisciplinary courses on Asian Studies (i.e., internships, field study, special studies, travel study, independent study, or seminar courses) currently have no way to identify the courses as such. As the Asian Studies Minor program grows and strengthens, it needs a way to identify and sponsor such courses. By having a separate prefix, students who are Asian Studies minors will be able to enroll in select courses that have been the specifically designed to serve the program.
