Justification for action
This change is needed due to University-wide revisions
to the Core Course program. Since students are no longer required to complete
900-120, maintaining this prerequisite would place an undue burden on students
who choose to take 900-140 instead. If the change is not made students
would be required to complete a course (900-120) that will not further
progress toward completion of their general education and/or major program.
Changing this prerequisite will have a certain impact on students’ preparation
for work in this 300 level course. However, it will not significantly affect
students’ ability to understand and learn from the course, or the manner
in which the course is taught. Essential analytical skills can be developed
in 900-140. In addition, this change will bring the740-317 prerequisite
into conformity with the majority of 300 level courses in the history department,
thereby contributing to greater uniformity and consistency across departmental
offerings.
