Course justification:
Two types of socialization are needed for prospective teachers. First, as undergraduates and throughout student teaching, students are learning how to teach students in both elementary and secondary setting and practicing what they have been taught throughout their undergraduate career. Preparation for entry from student to student teacher will be addressed in the new course, Current Topics in Physical Education.

Second, students need socialization skills for beginning teachers. Inservice socialization will begin in the Seminar that accompanies student teaching. Issues and concerns about teaching will still be addressed as will job skills needed for securing employment.
 

Relationship to program assessment objectives:
Students will be assessed using the Beginning Physical Education Teacher

Standards and INTASC principles in particular those on Content Knowledge, Diverse Learners, Management and Motivation, Communication, Planning and Instruction and Reflection.
 

Budgetary impact:
A position was transferred to the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching. Budget for this position was transferred at the same time.
 

Course requisites:
Students must be currently enrolled in Directed Teaching.
