Justification for action
Most of our internships now involve a level of activity
and learning that far exceeds the current 3 credit maximum. In particular,
the 6 credit internship is now going to be an important lead-in to the
MPA program for those students who choose the new 150 credit plan (CPA).
The recruiting public accounting firms are requiring this approach and
the other UW campuses will all be involved as well. Other curricular events
(see companion proposal plus the college proposal to eliminate the 250-211
requirement) have now made it possible for such a requirement to fit within
the credit limits of our program. The timing is fortuitous and it will
allow us to maintain and increase our success in the future.
