  3. Justification
These proposed changes reflect the recent establishment of an advertising major and minor in the Journalism program by separating internships performed in traditional print and broadcast journalism settings from internships performed in advertising organizations. Two separate course numbers have been established to reflect these changes. In addition, the reference to public relations internships has been deleted since a separate course (166-493P) has been established for these internships. The term "on-line" has been added to reflect the growth of on-line journalism opportunities for our students. The language "approved internship setting" is more accurate than "approved employer" since not all interns are paid for their services.

Separate and unique prerequisites have been established for the advertising internship. The GPA requirement will provide more realistic assurance that prospective interns have the skills and knowledge expected in most internship settings.
