  1. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM
    1. Bulletin description of the program:

    2. The Supply Chain Management emphasis will provide Production/Operations Management majors a thorough understanding of the role of purchasing, JIT systems and transportation in the management of today’s business systems.

    3. List of courses to be included in the program:

    4. Development of a new emphasis in the Production Operations Management major. This emphasis would require the completion of three of the following courses which are currently available as part of the POM elective courses:

250456-Modern Manufacturing Systems (to be retitled Fundamentals of Supply Chain Management)
      250460-Computer Integrated Manufacturing
      260436-Purchasing and Materials Management
      230438-Urban Regional and Transportation Economics
      250493-Cooperative/Internship in Management

    5. Goals and learning objectives of the program:

    6. The new Supply Chain Emphasis will help students understand the integrative nature of today’s operations.
  1. RELATION OF THE PROGRAM TO INSTITUTIONAL MISSION, STRATEGIC PLAN AND COLLEGE/DEPARTMENT GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  2. This change supports the university’s mission by preparing our graduates to understand the role of industrial systems in the Southwestern Wisconsin region.

  3. RELATION OF THE PROGRAM TO OTHER PROGRAMS ON CAMPUS, IN THE UW SYSTEM, AND IN THE REGION

  4. This new emphasis does not overlap with any programs in the College of Business. The supply chain emphasis utilizes current existing courses from various departments to provide a unique educational experience for our Production/Operations Management (POM) majors. Currently, there are no programs in the southeastern Wisconsin region that provide this emphasis in conjunction with the POM major. This emphasis will provide qualified graduates to meet the needs of industries in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

  5. PROJECTED SOURCE(S) OF RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAM

  6. There will be no additional costs to be incurred since courses are all currently available.

  7. STUDENT NEED AND/OR DEMAND FOR THE PROGRAM

  8. This change is in line with the recommendations provided to the POM faculty in consultations with the POM Advisory Board (consisting of 25 industry members). The Advisory Board stressed the importance of integrated resource management as part of today’s operations. The emphasis ensures that students interested in the supply chain management field get the necessary training and obtain the necessary recognition.
The appropriate Marketing and Economics faculty were consulted in preparation of this proposal and we were encouraged to submit this proposal by those faculty.
