At the April 30, 2009 meeting of this committee the issue of comprehensive majors vs the traditional major/minor was discussed.  The committee felt that guidelines should be established to justify why a comprehensive major is needed and how it relates to the goal of providing a liberal arts education.  It was suggested that we define "a liberal arts education" in order to frame the guidelines for the comprehensive major.  Beth Olson and Paul House volunteered to write a definition.  The chair would like Beth and Paul to present their draft of the definition and bring the comprehensive major issue to the table again at our October 1st meeting.   The chair also requested that the issue of changing the foreign language requirement be brought back to the table for discussion at our October 1st meeting as well.
