The minutes of the October 2, 2008
meeting were approved on a Winship/Schemenauer motion.
Announcements:
The chair distributed copies of an updated agenda for the
meeting. The revised agenda was approved on a Neuman/Collins
motion.
The chair introduced Trudy Witonsky who is replacing Jerre
Collins as the Languagues & Literatures representative on the
committee.
The new Sociology emphasis - Family and Health Emphasis was
withdrawn from the agenda by Larry Neuman on the morning of October 16,
2008.
Emrey/Schemenauer moved to
approve the changes to the list of approved courses for the International
Studies Majorwith
a friendly ammendment to include last minute changes emailed to the
chair by Ron Berger from the Sociology, Anthropology & Criminal
Justice Dept. The motion
passed unanimously.
Emrey/Collins moved to
aprove the new emphasis International
Studies Major- International
Economics Emphasis. The
motion passed unanimously.
House/Olson
moved to
receive and record the following informational item:
Title change for PSYCH 499FROM "Honors Thesis" TO "Senior
Thesis."
Requisite change for SOCWORK372
"Social Work Practice II."
New Business. The
chair asked members for thoughts regarding
interdisciplinary and cross-departmental collaboration.It was agreed that such collaboration would
be beneficial but challenges such as workload, salary structure, caps,
and
FTE/SCH were brought up as concerns.A
suggestion surfaced that brown-bag/luncheon meetings may be the best
way to get
shared interest groups together. The chair will take the committee’s
suggestions and voice their concerns to the Dean’s Administrative
Council.
