Meeting of October 5, 2006

    PRESENT:  Ellen Davis, Hassimi Traore, Pilar Melero, Jeff Zimmerman,  Jennifer Thibodeaux, Jon Kane, Crista Lebens,  Steve Sahyun, Jolly Emrey, Elizabeth Olson, Sarah Sheridan,  Richard Salem, Ellie Schemenauer, Tom Schweigert, Debra Heiber, and Elizabeth Hachten, Chair.

    GUESTS:  Margo Kleinfeld, Georgaphy and Geology
    1. Emrey/Kane moved to approve the September 7, 2006 minutes.  The motion passed unanimously.
    2. Announcements:  NONE  Questions were raised concerning the effect the new grading system will have on policies such as the course repeat policy. The chair stated that  these policies will have to be examined in light of the new system.  It was felt that a grade of D+ would not be repeatable but  the committee who set the policy would need to make that determination.
    3. Old Business.  Kane/Salem moved to bring from the table the Mathematics minor, "Actuarial Mathematics Minor."  The motion passed unanimously. Dr. Kane stated that his department decided to leave the course title the same and to add the Unique Requirement MATH 255, MATH 280, and MATH 441.  The department felt that a student who meets the unique requirement would have the necessary background needed for the minor.  The tabled motion was approved unanimously.
    4. Emrey/Zimmerman moved to approve the new course  POLISCI 240 "Law and Society." The motion passed unanimously.
    5. Emrey/Traore moved to approve the  new course  POLISCI 147 "World Affairs Seminar."  The motion passed unanimously.
    6. Salem/Sahyun moved to approve the new course  SOCIOLGY 373 "Sociology of Terrorism."  The motion passed unanimously.
    7. Zimmerman/Davis moved to approve the new course GEOGRPY 361 "Geography of South and Southeast Asia."   The motion passed unanimously.
    8. Zimmerman/ Sahyun moved to approve the description change, title change and add the general education GS to GEOGRPY 364 FROM "Geography of Asia" TO "Geography of East Asia."  The motion passed unanimously.
    9. Davis/Melero moved to adjourn.  The motion passed uanimously.
