CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
College of Letters and Sciences
Meeting of January 25, 2007
PRESENT: Catherine Chan (rep. Ellen Davis), Pilar Melero,
Jennifer Thibodeaux, Jerre Collins, Jon
Kane, David Cartwright, Steve Sahyun, Jolly Emrey, Elizabeth
Olson, Paul
Adogamhe, Jim Winship, Richard Salem, Ellie Schemenauer, David Welsch,
Debra Heiber, and
Elizabeth Hachten,
Chair.
The minutes of the December 7, 2006
meeting were approved at written on a Collins/Adogamhe motion.
Announcements:
The Chair reminded everyone that changes for the new
catalog (bulletin) should be submitted
by April 18, 2007 for the April 26, 2007 meeting to insure they are
included in the new course catalog next year.
Old Business: A draft resolution for establishing an
Online Course Review Policy which was on the December 7th agenda but
was not discussed was brought forward for discussion. The
chair said that since the original resolution which called for the
Faculty Senate to create a university committee to review hybrid and
online
courses was drafted, Chris Henige, the sponsor, was now more in favor
of each college creating a committee to review its own hybrid and
online courses. A committee member suggested that a working
definition of what is considered a hybrid course be established.
The chair suggested that the members take the resolution back to their
departments for discussion and bring feedback to this committee.
Salem/Kane moved to approve
the change in the Asian
Studies Minor . After
some discussion, the following concerns were raised. First, it was felt
the Budgetary Impact was insufficient especially in the area of
staffing impact on the Foreign Languages program. Second, it was
felt that the proposal did not sufficiently link to program assessment
objectives. Finally it was felt that consultation should take
place with Peter Hoff, coordinator of the Foreign Languages
program. Schemenauer/Collins moved
to table the motion until the concerns were addressed. The
motion passed unanimously.
Kane/Emrey moved to accept
and record the following information item:
Repeatability change for GEOLGY 492
"Field Studies in Geology." The motion passed unanimously.
