  1. The November 2, 2006 minutes were approved as distributed.
  2. Announcements:  In answer to the question as to what grades would be repeatable under the new + - grading system, the Chair said that the Provost cited the rule that any grade below a 2.0 is repeatable.  Therefore, any grade below a C would be repeatable.
  3. Old Business.  Collins/Sahyun moved to bring from the table  the new course SOCIOLGY 255 "Sociology of Science Fiction."  The motion passed unanimously.  The concerns that the course did not have enough content to be a regular semester course and that the Bibliography was adequate were addressed.  The original motion to approve the course passed unanimously.
  4. Davis/Sahyun moved to approve the contact hour change and credit hour change for BIOLOGY 412 "Immunology."  The motion passed unanimously.
  5. Thibodeaux/Emrey moved to approve the new course, HISTRY 337 "Modernization in the Middle East."  The motion passed unanimously.
  6. Thibodeaux/Lebens moved to approve the new course, HISTRY 338 "Arab-Israeli Conflict, 1900-Present." The motion passed unanimously.
  7. Melero/Collins moved to approve the new course, LSINDP 100 "Foreign Film Appreciation."  The motion passed unanimously.
  8. Kane/Traore  moved to approve the course revision, description change, title change and requisite change for MCS 232 FROM "Concepts of COBOL with File Structures" TO " COBOL and Computer Systems."  The motion passed unanimously.
  9. Sahyun/Salem moved to approve the course revision, description change, contact hour change, credit change and General Education Option change for PHYSCS 100 "Energy."  The lack of Math 141 as a prerequisite was questioned.   The motion passed unanimously.
  10. Sahyun/Salem moved to approve the course revision, description change, title change, number change, contact hour change, and credit change FROM PHYSCS 160 "General Physics I" TO PHYSCS 140 "Principles of Physics I."  The Biological Sciences Department objected to the changes because they felt they would cause undue hardship for the students in the Pre-Veterinary and Marine Biology and Freshwater Ecology emphases.  The motion passed with 12 YES votes and 1 NO vote.
  11. Sahyun/Salem moved to approve the course revision, description change, title change, number change, contact hour change, and credit change FROM PHYSCS 162 "General Physics II" TO PHYSCS 141 "Principles of Physics II. "  The motion passed with 1 NO vote.
  12. Sahyun/Emrey moved to approve the course revision, description change, title change, number change, contact hour change, and credit change FROM PHYSCS 172 "Introductory Physics II" TO PHYSCS 180 "Physics for Scientists and Engineers I" and the course revision, description change, title change, number change, contact hour change, and credit change FROM PHYSCS 174 "Introductory Physics III" TO PHYSCS 181 "Physics for Scientists and Engineers II."   The motion passed unanimously.
  13. Sahyun/Collins moved to approve the new course PHYSCS 190 "Frontiers of Engineering and Physics." The motion passed unanimously.
  14. Sahyun/Schemenauer moved to approve the new course PHYSCS 324 "Methods of Theoretical Physics" and the new course PHYSCS 325 "Classical Electromagnetism."   The motion passed unanimously.
  15. Sahyun/Kane moved to approve the following new courses:
    1. PHYSCS 344 "Modern Physics."
    2. PHYSCS 360 "Optics."
    3. PHYSCS 425 "Quantum Mechanics."  
The motion passed unanimously.
  1. Salem/Davis moved to approve the new course ANTHROPL 225 "Human Evolution: Introduction to Biological Anthropology."  The motion passed unanimously.
  2. Salem/Kane moved to approve the new course ANTHROPL 316 "Pharmaceuticals, Culture and Society."  The motion passed unanimously.
  3. Salem/Adogamhe moved to approve the new course ANTHROPL 320 "Heritage and Cultural Resource Management."  The motion passed unanimously.
  4. Zimmerman/Salem moved to approve the new course GEOGRPY 120 "Introduction to Weather and Climate."   The motion passed unanimously.
