CURRICULUM COMMITTEE

College of Letters and Sciences

Meeting of April 26,  2007

PRESENT:  Ellen Davis, Jeff Zimmerman, Jerre Collins, Jon Kane, David Cartwright, Steve Sahyun,  Jolly Emrey, Elizabeth Olson, Paul Adogamhe, Sarah Sheridan, Richard Salem, Ellie Schemenauer, David Welsch, Debra Heiber, and Elizabeth Hachten, Chair.

    1. The minutes of the March  22, 2007  meeting were approved as written on a Collins/Adogamhe motion.
    2. Announcements:  None
    3. The chair asked if the committee members had had a chance to bring up the issue of problems with unrequisites and course equivalencies with their departments. The unrequisites and course equivalencies do not appear to be much of a general issue in the college.  Rather the problems seem to be mostly in the Math & Computer Science department and the science departments.
    4. Jolly Emrey was re-elected and Jeff Zimmerman was elected to the UCC for the 07-09 term by acclamation.
    5. The deadlines for submitting propoals for the fall and spring semesters was discussed.  It was felt that the deadline for the spring semester should be extended to the last meeting in April of the previous spring semester or ideally the first meeting of the fall semester.  The deadline for next fall semester which is the December meeting of the previous fall  was reasonable  but extending it until the first meeting in the spring semester would also be ideal. Sahyun/Salem moved to recommend the changes to the UCC.  Liz Hachten will bring the recommendation to the UCC.
    6. Kane/Cartwright moved to approve the new course MATH 449 "Actuarial Examination Preparation." The motion passed unanimously.
    7. The new course from Sociology  SOCIOLGY 342/542 "Sociology of Family and Work" was withdrawn from the agenda.
    8. Cartwright/Kane moved to receive and record the following informational items:
      1. Change in the Actuarial Mathematics Minor.
      2. Change in the Integrated Science Business Major.
      3. Description change and title change for SOCIOLGY 372  FROM  "White-Collar Crime" TO "White-Collar Crime: Corporate and Governmental Deviance."
      4. Requisite change for SOCWORK 371 "Social Work Practice I."
      5. Requisite change for SOCWORK 372 "Social Work Practice II"
      6. Requisite change for SOCWORK 473/673 "Social Work Practice III"
      7. Requisite change for SOCWORK 493 "Social Work Experience"
The motion passed unanimously.
