CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
College of Letters and Sciences
Meeting on March 2, 2006

PRESENT:  Ellen Davis, Pilar Melero,  Rex Hanger, Tony Gulig, Michael Longrie (Rep. Rebecca Hogan), Steven Sahyun, Meg Waraczynski, Paul Adogamhe, Richard Salem, Lauren Smith and Debra Heiber (Acting Chair).
Before the meeting, Debra Heiber  distributed a handout demonstrating how to do a course search in the online catalog to identify what programs a course is found in.  The reason for this is due to a  recommendation at a recent UCC meeting  that departments who delete or change a course substantially, notify other departments/programs who include the course in their program(s) so that they may make the appropriate change to their program(s).  At Debra's request, the handout will be posted on the L&S Curriculum web site for future reference.
    1.  The minutes for the January 19, 2006 meeting were approved as distributed.
    2.  Announcements:  There were no additional announcements.
    3.  Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice
      1. Salem/Gulig moved to approve the new course  ANTHROPL 302 "Culture, Medicine and Health."   The motion passed unanimously.
      2. Salem/Hanger moved to approve the new course SOCIOLGY 426  " Minorities and the Criminal Justice System." A  committee member asked if it was appropriate for the committee to ask for a clarification of the attendance and participation portion of the grade basis.  No one seemed to know the answer.  The acting chair and the secretary said they would check with the committee chair.  The question was also raised as to why the course wasn't cross-listed with Race and Ethnic Studies.  It was decided that this could be done in the future.   The motion passed unanimously.
      3. Salem/Gulig moved to approve the change in the Family and Health Studies Minor.   The motion passed unanimously.
    4. The meeting adjourned.

                Respectfully Submitted,

Elaine Wagner, Secretary
