CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
AGENDA
The Committee will meet Electronically
in lieu of the
THURSDAY, April 20, 2006 Meeting
- Approveal of minutes for the April 6, 2006
meeting.
- Informational
Items
- Requisite change in the following History courses:
- HISTRY 353
"Ancient History"
- HISTRY
354 "Medieval Europe"
(Chnages
the prerequistie FROM "GENED 120 or 3 credits of history or consent of
instructor" TO "Sophomore standing or consent of instructor." The History
department is currently trying to
standardize all prerequisites for 300-level courses by making the
course
prerequisite “sophomore standing or consent of instructor).
- HISTRY
355 "Early Modern Europe 1300-1600"
(Changes
the prerequisite FROM "GENED 140" TO "Sophomore standing or
consent of instructor." The current prerequisite was assigned by
Philosophy
and Religious Studies, the department that previously taught the course.
The prerequisite prevents History majors from
enrolling in the course since they take GENED 120 in lieu of GENED 140.
This new prerequisite allows students from
all majors to enroll in the course if they are of sophomore standing or
higher).
- Requisite change in the Social Work course, SOCWORK 341
"Sexuality for Professional Growth" FROM "Social Work majors, Women's
Studies minors or majors, Health Education minors, or consent of
department chairperson. TO None. (Social
Work 341 is an elective course in the
Human Services Foundations minor, which is not reflected in the current
prerequisites. Since the course has been
approved for a range of majors and minors, such a cumbersome
prerequisite is
unnecessary. Similar courses at other
universities do not have such prerequisites).
- Change
in the following major and submajors:
- Public
Policy and Administration. [Changes
the number of units from 63 to 60. (1) Add the writing requirement that already
exists in the major to the actual 60 credits required in the body of
the major
instead of as an additional requirement.
(2) Add a department exit
interview requirement as a milestone for majors].
- Legal
Studies Minor (Changes the
number of units from 25 to 24. Removes POLISCI 360,
FNBSLW 498
OR POLISCI 498 from Req 1. Adds POLISCI 418 "Legal Research and
Writing" to Req 1. Removes FNBSLW 348 from Req 3. When the
certificate was
developed it was always intended that a separate legal research and
writing
course would be established when enrollment dictated a need. We are
dropping FNBSLW 348 because it has a three-unit prerequisite for
finance and
business law majors that is not required of other majors).
-
Paralegal
Certificate (Changes the number of units from 19 to 18. Removes
POLISCI 360, FNBSLW 498
OR POLISCI 498 from Req 1. Adds POLISCI 418 "Legal Research and
Writing" to Req 1. Removes FNBSLW 348 from Req 3. When the
certificate was
developed it was always intended that a separate legal research and
writing
course would be established when enrollment dictated a need. We are
dropping FNBSLW 348 because it has a three-unit prerequisite for
finance and
business law majors that is not required of other majors).
