This change, which strengthens the minor, is consistent with the mission of the University System to support professional and specialized education. It is consistent with the UW-Whitewater mission which stresses the importance of inter-disciplinary preparation. It is consistent with the mission of the Social Work Department to provide knowledge that will be of use to students in their professional practice.III. Rationale
The Human Services Minor is designed to give students an opportunity to select coursework for a minor that will strengthen their background in a chosen area of human services. Introduction to Social Gerontology is proposed to be added due to student demands—students who did not wish to pursue a Gerontology Minor but who believed that they would be working to some degree with older adults. The Introduction to Communicative Disorders will be useful for students who work in with persons with disabilities.IV. Cost implications
There are no added costs, as the courses are regularly offered.
