I. Exact description of request
The minor would be changed to allow greater flexibility in the required
portion of the minor. The current minor requires students to take nine
credits of a required core:
GERONTOLOGY
MINOR - 21 credits
GERONTOLOGY
MINOR - 21 credits
This change, which strengthens the minor, is consistent with the mission of the University System to support professional and specialized education. It is consistent with the UW-Whitewater mission which stresses the importance of inter-disciplinary preparation. It is consistent with the mission of the Social Work Department to provide knowledge that will be of use to students in their professional practice.III. Rationale
At present, two of the three required courses, Philosophy 365, Philosophical and Religious Perspectives on Death and Dying, and Biology 310, Biology of Aging, are not being offered regularly enough for students to complete the Required Core Courses. The addition of two more courses in the Required Core area would allow students to have greater flexibility and complete the minor in a timely fashion.IV. Cost implications
There are no added costs, as the courses are regularly offered.
