Attach the following:
I. Detailed explanation of
changes (use FROM/TO format)
FROM: Prereq: Any political science general
studies course.
TO: Prereq: Three credits of political science.
II. Justification for action
Certain political science courses are included in programs
complementary to the Political Science major, such as Public Policy and
Administration Major, Legal Studies Minor, Paralegal Certificate, and International
Studies Major and Minor. These programs do not necessarily include political
science general studies courses nor do the required courses necessitate
the background of a general studies course, so students in these programs
may complete several political science courses and never need to take a
political science general studies course. Changing the prerequisite from
"any political science general studies course" to "three credits of political
science" allows the different program coordinators, in consultation with
the department chair, to determine whether a student is prepared to immediately
enroll in an upper division course and begin the sequence of political
science courses necessary for completion of the chosen program. Once the
student gains entry into her first required political science course she
will meet the three credits prerequisite for all other political science
courses necessary to complete her program of courses.
