Instructions for Online Syllabi
Instructors of
every course are required to submit an updated syllabus to the library every
semester (FS 945-12). As an alternative, they may submit syllabi online, though
online submission is voluntary. In accordance with Faculty Senate actions, we
are now collecting the Spring 2008 syllabi to be
posted on the web. Please check with your respective departments to
determine if you should send your syllabi (or links) “directly” or
if you should send them to the department to be submitted.
NOTE: Faculty
who wish to have their syllabi posted online before the Spring
2008 semester begins should submit their syllabi by December 14 to: syllabi@uww.edu .
Since we plan to
post the majority of syllabi on the web before the semester begins with the
remaining ones to be posted no later than the first two weeks of the semester,
we urge you to submit your syllabi early. NOTE: Special courses (490s
and 790s) are not included in this process.
Please note
that access to syllabi on the web is not restricted. Once
the syllabi have been posted on the web, they are available to anyone who has
Internet access. To reduce unnecessary
e-mails to faculty, faculty and
instructional academic staff who do not wish to have their syllabi posted on
the web should forward a printed copy of their syllabi to Leslie Meyer,
Associate Vice Chancellor’s Office, Hyer
420.

Instructions for Submitting Syllabi
Please follow the appropriate set of instructions below.
1. IF YOUR SYLLABUS IS
ALREADY ON THE WEB: (preferred method)
Please send it via e-mail to
(syllabi@uww.edu).
To do this, locate the
syllabus on the web, copy the address from the white address/location box on
the tool bar above, and paste it into an e-mail message addressed to (syllabi@uww.edu).
2. IF YOUR
SYLLABUS IS NOT ALREADY ON THE WEB: (Alternate method)
Please send your syllabus as
an e-mail attachment to (syllabi@uww.edu)
in Hypertext (html), Word, Word Perfect, or some text format.
NOTE: If you are a Mac user, please send attachment in a
Hypertext or any PC format such as Word for PC or Plain Text. (Hypertext format
is preferred for both MAC and PC users).
How to
label your syllabus before e-mailing it (if it is not already on the web):
- Re-name your syllabus using the
“Save As” function under the “File” menu
- Re-name it using the following format
SPEECH110Doe (if Prof. Doe is teaching Speech 110)
- E-mail the file to syllabi@uww.edu
MAKE SURE A FILE EXTENSION IS LOCATED AT THE
END OF YOUR FILE*
- A file extension is the .doc, pdf,
wpd, xls, html, rtf,
etc. Most programs add this automatically when saving. Check your file before
attaching it to make sure the file extension is present. Without it, we
may not be able to open your attachment.
- If you have multiple sections of the course,
please list them AFTER your name. If Prof. Doe has sections 8, 11,
and 23 of Speech 110, and all syllabi are the same, he/she would label the
file as follows: SPEECH110Doe8-11-23.doc.
- For the dual-listed (undergraduate/graduate)
courses, the label should read as follows: SPECED424-624Doe.doc.
Re-naming your files, as laid out above, helps us to upload your syllabi
online more efficiently. If you encounter any problems, have never worked
with attachments, or have questions about how to name your files, please
feel free to call Leslie at x1181.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT FOR DUAL-LISTED (undergraduate/graduate) COURSES
As you begin to prepare your syllabi for Spring 2008, please be certain to include the following in
the syllabus, regardless of whether or not graduate students are enrolled for
this term:
- Content: e.g., content areas of the course graduate
students will explore with greater depth, and/or additional content areas
graduate students will examine.
- Intensity: e.g., the unique course requirements for graduate students –
in terms of additional readings or assignments, different requirements in
assignments, different role expectations, and/or different evaluation
methods and/or standards – that reflect greater intellectual
intensity and rigor.
- Self-Direction :e.g., outside-of-class activities required of
graduate students, including research, that reflect a greater degree of
self-directed learning.
