John Stone called the January 29, 2009, meeting to order at 2:16 p.m.
The minutes of the November 6, 2008, were unanimously approved on a motion by Carol Scovotti, with a second by Will Drago.
Announcements
- A summary of the enrollment comparisons from the last 10 years indicates that the Spring 2009 term enrollment is on par with other years, with robust enrollments in the MBA and MPA programs.
- The Graduate Assistantship application deadline is March 13, 2009.
- Council members of departments with graduate programs are encouraged to discuss with those department members the issue of changing the graduate grading scheme to a plus/minus scheme, paralleling the undergraduate grading scheme. This issue will be discussed at a future Graduate Council meeting, hopefully, yet this spring term.
- There are four finalists for the Provost position. Council members were encouraged to attend the open meetings for the finalists, all of which will be held at 1:00 p.m., with the first meeting on February 11th.

New Business items were then considered. Pete Mesner moved to approve item A, an admission policy clarification from the Department of Communication. Manuel Ossers second the motion, which was subsequently approved.

Manuel Ossers next moved to approve items B-E on the agenda. Sang Choi seconded the motion. John Zbikowski explained the rationale for keeping the Curriculum and Instruction courses from elimination due to the currency of bulletin exercise and Sue Wildermuth clarified the reason for keeping the Speech course Speech 520 from elimination due to the same exercise. With little discussion, the motion carried. Curricular items included:
