GRADUATE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES


May 8 , 2003
PRESENT: Mohammad Ahmadi, John Aulerich, Ni Chang, Juliana Constantinescu (for Steven Sahyun), Zohreh Ghavamshahidi, Robert Gruber, Stephen Havlovic, Andrew Kapp, Sharon Kolb, Pete Mesner, Leda Nath, Manuel Ossers, Barbara Penington, Tim Reutebuch, Bambi Statz, Tony Truog, and Yushan Zhao.

Associate Dean Stone called the meeting to order at 2:20 p.m. A motion was made by Tony Truog to approve the minutes of the April 10, 2003, meeting. Mohammad Ahmadi seconded the motion. After noting the misspelling of Mohammad’s name in the April minutes, the motion carried unanimously.


Announcements

  1. John Stone announced, for those that still had not been informed, that Richard Lee had accepted the position of Provost at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. He will begin his new duties on August 1, 2003. It has yet to be determined who the interim dean will be. Tony Truog moved, seconded by Manuel Ossers, to formally congratulate Richard on his new position and to thank him for all his services to this university. The motion carried unanimously.
  2. Seven of the eight GPR funded assistantships have been offered and are under contract for the next academic year.

Information Only Items

Manuel Ossers moved to consider agenda items A-I of the Information Only items to be received and recorded. Andrew Kapp seconded the motion. The motion carried. The items included:

  1. Curricular Action: Course Deletion from the Business Education/Computer and Network Administration Department: BSEDOS 561 Merchandise Management.

Zohreh Ghavamshahidi moved to approve agenda business items A-G. Bambi Statz seconded the motion. The motion carried, with one abstention. Business items included:

  2. Curricular Action: New Course from the Departments of Curriculum and Instruction and Languages and Literatures: ESL/CIGENRL 530 Teaching Grammar in the ESL/BE Classroom.

Other Business

Barb Monfils presented an overview of the proposed revision to the graduate self-study form for audit and review. The undergraduate committee took their revisions to UCC and to Faculty Senate for approval. The undergraduate and graduate forms would be similar to each other. Andrew Kapp moved, seconded by Bambi Statz, to approve the revised self-study form. The motion carried, with one abstention.
