GRADUATE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES


February 7, 2002
PRESENT: Paul Adogamhe, John Aulerich, Marshall Anderson, Scott Bradley, Ni Chang, Will Drago, Robert Gruber, Darlene Habanek (for Tony Truog), Andrew Kapp, Richard Lombard, Pete Mesner, Brenda O’Beirne, John Patterson, Bambi Statz, Scott Swanson, Sally Vogl-Bauer, and Janet Wright.
ABSENT: Mohammad Ahmadi, Randy Busse, Myung-Hee Chung, Wade Dazey, Ed Drexler, *Zoreh Ghavamshahidi, Jeffrey Heinrich, Diane Jones, Steven Karges, Dan McGuire, Lanny Neider, *Manuel Ossers, Paul Rybski, Julimar Rivera, Eric Roche, and Erin Schoonmaker.

Richard Lee called the meeting to order at 2:20 p.m. Rick Lombard moved, and Bambi Statz seconded, to approve the minutes of the November 8, 2001, meeting. The motion carried.


Announcements

  1. The February 1, 2002, FTE enrollment report indicates that graduate enrollments have increased, due mainly to significant increases in enrollments in the MBA and Counseling programs.
  2. John Stone reminded faculty that the February 15, 2002, deadline for students to apply for a Graduate Research Grant is fast approaching. The grant awards are in the amount of $500 and are to be used to defray the costs of scholarly activities. Typically there are between 2 - 10 awards each year. Proposals should be submitted to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs.
  3. The Graduate Catalog is no longer in hard copy, but will be available on-line. The Graduate Office printed hard copies for the Deans, Chairpersons, and Program Coordinators only. The Catalog will be updated on-line every term.
  4. Richard Lee indicated that the number of Graduate Assistantships available for 2002-2003 is uncertain due to pending budget cuts. Dr. Lee will keep the Council informed on this issue.

Marshall Anderson moved to approve agenda items A-T of the Information Only portion of the agenda. Pete Mesner seconded the motion. The motion carried. Information items included:

Rick Lombard moved to adjourn the meeting at 2:39 p.m..Ni Cheng seconded the motion. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 14th, 2002.
