The W.P. Roseman Excellence in Teaching Award
University of Wisconsin - Whitewater

The W.P. Roseman Excellence in Teaching Award is presented annually to a faculty member of University of Wisconsin -Whitewater in recognition of outstanding teaching. The award was established in memory of W.P. Roseman, who directed the campus elementary school from 1919 to 1942. The recipient is chosen by an all-university committee of faculty and students.

Nomination Process:

Each of the four colleges submits one nominee for the award. College nominees are chosen according to criteria established by the respective colleges. College selection committees should submit nine copies of the nomination materials to the Associate Vice Chancellor's office, Hyer Hall 420, by March 4, 2009. Materials will be returned to the candidate after the selection process is completed.

Nomination materials should include the following:

1. A current curriculum vita.

2. A letter of nomination from the college selection committee with the rationale for nomination. This letter should address how the faculty member has a love of learning and has exhibited teaching expertise.

3. A list of courses taught by the nominee at University of Wisconsin -Whitewater during the past three years (please do not include syllabi, sample exams/assignments).

4. A list of non-credit academic activities involving students (for example, conducting student research or seminars, advising organizations).

5. Any other evidence of outstanding teaching ability, e.g. recognition from a professional organization for teaching.

6. A maximum of three letters of recommendation from students (1 may be a letter from an alumnus/a), addressing the qualities that distinguish the nominee as a teacher.

7. Two letters from among the following: campus colleagues/department chairperson/dean addressing the nominee's qualifications as an outstanding teacher.

8. A summary of student evaluations for each course taught during the past three years and any explanatory remarks that may clarify the evaluations.

9. A one to two page statement of teaching philosophy
